What you'll need

Ingredients

Serves 2
  • 1 1/4 lb very ripe beefsteak tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 sticks celery, roughly chopped
  • juice of 1 lemon
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • few dashes hot sauce
  • 1/2 tsp celery salt
  • to serve vodka, ice, celery sticks, garden herbs

How it comes together

Method

  1. Blend tomatoes and celery until smooth. Pass through a fine sieve.

  2. Stir in lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce and celery salt. Taste and adjust.

  3. Pour over ice with a generous measure of vodka. Garnish with a celery stick and herbs from the garden.

  4. Or serve as a virgin Bloody Mary. It is genuinely excellent without the alcohol.

Tips

  • Salt the tomatoes for 30 minutes before blending. It concentrates the flavor significantly.
