Our first community harvests

The harvest journal was supposed to be a quiet feature. Log what you picked, see it later. Instead it has turned into the part of plant we look forward to most, because people started sharing.

A grower two zones north of us logged her first bowl of Sungolds with a note that her kids ate half of them before dinner. Someone in the desert posted a squash plant that had already taken over a raised bed in six weeks. A first-time gardener pulled her first carrots and wrote, simply, “they are so small and I love them.”

None of these are big harvests. That is the point. The first time something you planted turns into food is the moment that hooks a person on growing, and most gardening tools never bother to mark it.

So we are leaning into it. Community is where the next growers find out that this is doable, that the person down the street figured it out, and that small wins count. If you have a first harvest this season, log it. We would love to see it.
